Super Bowl Prediction
We are only two days away from Super Bowl XLIX (49) between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. This is the second Super Bowl in a row that the two number 1 seeds from the AFC and NFC advanced to the Super Bowl. Last Year’s Super Bowl was characterized by a Denver Bronco debacle. Seattle had a blowout victory last year, but this year will be a completely different ball game.
Whoever wins this game will win the game in the trenches. The lines that are the most physical and get the most push will win the game because whoever controls the line will control the run game. The running game for both teams is key, but for Seattle, it is their bread and butter. They will try to get as many guys in the box committed for the run, then they will throw the ball down the field to Baldwin. However, that task will be daunting due to Darrelle Revis being in the secondary for the Patriots. Revis is probably one of, if not the best, one on one corner in the game. Hence the nickname “Revis Island”.
The Patriots have a similar scheme of trying to run to open up the passing game, but the Patriots have a player that the Seahawks don’t: Rob Gronkowski. Gronk is the best tight end in the league, if you disagree the only other challenger would be Jimmy Graham of the New Orleans Saints otherwise there isn’t a better tight end in the league. Gronkowski is such a tough matchup for safeties to cover him because he is so tall and big, but a linebacker can’t cover him because he is too fast. If the Patriots want to win Sunday, they need to run the ball and throw the ball to Gronk.
My prediction has wavered all week long between Seattle and New England. I know one thing, this game will be close. The final score will be, at most, a 2 possession game. The New England Patriots have won their past two games by pure dominance. The score against the Ravens doesn’t show it, however, because the Ravens got a couple cheap touchdowns in the final minutes of the 4th quarter. The Pats destroyed the Colts right out of the gate and never turned back. The Seahawks won their first game handily over Carolina, but they escaped by the skin of their teeth against the Packers. The Patriots have a better defense than the Packers, and Seattle couldn’t move the ball the first 2 quarters against the Packers. Likewise, Seattle has a much better defense than that of the Colts. So we will have to see how each offense responds to a tougher matchup.
As much as it pains me to say it, I am taking the New England Patriots over the Seattle Seahawks by the score of 24-13. I just think that Brady and Gronk will overwhelm the Seattle defense and that the Patriot defense will reek havoc against Wilson and the Seahawks.
