Pitt Panthers Come Back to Beat #8 Notre Dame 76-72
James Robinson is a star for the Pitt Panthers. He is one of the best point guards in the league, and today he showed why. Pitt was in control for most of the game at home against Notre Dame, until the final few minutes of the game. Pitt had an 8 point lead, which quickly turned to a 1 point deficit. Pitt’s James Robinson sliced through the paint and scored on a floater to take the lead with 12 seconds left. Notre Dame had a three-point shot, but missed and Pitt rebounded. Robinson hit 2 free throws to seal the deal!
Pitt was in dire need of a win today, after losing 3 straight games to Duke, Louisville, and Virginia Tech. Pitt came out the gate strong and held the lead throughout most of the game. Jamel Artis lead all scorers with 20 points and 8 rebounds. James Robinson finished with 15 points and 10 assists. Pitt worked well as a team and played decent defense, but they will need to improve on the defensive side of the ball if they want to contend with the likes of Duke, Virginia, and Louisville.
Pitt’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament are slowly fading away with 3 consecutive losses, until todays win. Pitt is merely 14-8, which is no where near good enough to be considered for an NCAA Tournament bid. If Pitt wants to make it to the Tournament, they will need to win the remaining 5 games in their schedule, and make hay in the ACC Tournament. However, this will be a daunting feat because they have Louisville, North Carolina, and Virginia ahead.
