Penguins Edge Red Wings 4-1
The Pittsburgh Penguins edged the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. The Pens dominated right out of the gate and never glanced back. Patric Hornqvist scored a 1:51 into the game and Blake Comeau added the would be game winner 12:15 into the 1st period assisted by Hornqvist. The Pens added 2 more goals in the second by David Perron and Nick Spaling.
The Penguins pulled within a point of the New York Islanders for the Metropolitan Division lead. Blake Comeau added a goal and an assist tonight in his return from an upper body injury. Hornqvuist also added 2 points with a goal and an assist. The Pens offense looked fantastic tonight, but there was another major factor to the Pens win that i have said in the past needs to come up big, Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury saved 23 out of 24 shots against the Wings, and looked like the Fleury we all know and love because that is the kind of play that leads to championships.
The Penguins have won 4 out of the last 6, and Fleury has won 4 of his last 5 games. The Pens just got back home from a 3 game Canadian road trip and came out victorious in 2 of the 3 games. Those wins were monumental in keeping pace with the Islanders. The Pens have a fantastic shot of still claiming the Metropolitan division from the Islanders. They just need to keep up what they’ve been doing and they will be in perfect position to make a run in the playoffs!
