Best NFL Free Agents
This year’s free agency has fantastic talent at the wide receiver and defensive end position. Free agency begins March 10th, and teams will be in a frenzy trying to sign the likes of WR Dez Bryant, WR Demaryius Thomas, WR Randall Cobb, RB Demarco Murray, DE Ndamukong Suh, DE Justin Houston, and DE Jason Pierre-Paul.
Dez Bryant, wide receiver of the Dallas Cowboys, is the number #1 ranked wide receiver this free agency according to my personal rankings and ESPN’s rankings. Bryant has been Romo’s favorite receiver the past couple of seasons, but this season was Bryant’s best season yet. Bryant had 88 receptions, 1,320 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns, which led the league. Bryant is one of the best red zone threats out there because of his ability to go get the jump ball.
Bryant is a fantastic receiver, but doesn’t have the best attitude in the world. He has a hard time controlling his emotions, and it comes off as arrogant and rude. If you know you have a strong staff that can handle his personalty, then it is a no brainer to sign him. Bryant wants a near maxed deal, and the Cowboys are going to have to examine where they want to spend their money because DeMarco Murray is also a free agent. It is going to be extremely difficult to re-sign both Bryant and DeMarco Murray this offseason, but if Dallas can pull it off, they will be a preseason favorite to win the NFC East and win the NFC.
Demaryius Thomas, wide receiver of the Denver Broncos, is one of the best wide receivers in this years free agency, and he is ranked as the 4th best player in free agency. Thomas had a fantastic season with the Broncos with 111 receptions, 1,619 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns. He was Manning’s go-to receiver, as he has been the past few seasons. He ranked second in the league in receptions behind Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If i was a Denver Broncos’ front office personnel, I would do everything i could to make sure we sign back Demaryius Thomas. Thomas has been a key to the Broncos offensive success. Another thing for the Broncos and Thomas to consider is if Peyton Manning will return. If Peyton isn’t going to come back, i would be out of the Mile High if i were Thomas. Another thing the Broncos have to consider is the resigning of Julius Thomas. Overall, I think that Demaryius Thomas is the second best wide receiver this free agency.
Randall Cobb, wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers, is one of the quickest guys in the league when he has the ball. Randall Cobb has had a fantastic season with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Cobb is the second man in Green Bay behind Jordy Nelson. Cobb had 91 receptions, 1,287 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns this season. Cobb is the 3rd overall ranked wide receiver this free agency.
I truly am not sure how good of a receiver Cobb is without Aaron Rodgers, but I would like to see Cobb put up some of the same numbers he has put up with Rodgers at the helm with another team. I don’t doubt that he couldn’t produce somewhere else, but i just don’t think his numbers would be as significant elsewhere. If Cobb wants to be paid #1 receiver money then he needs to go elsewhere, but if i were Cobb i wouldn’t be going anywhere because with Rodgers you always have a shot at a Super Bowl ring.
Justin Houston, defensive end for the Kansas City Chiefs, had a fantastic season, but got a little over looked because of J.J. Watt’s ridiculous season. Houston had 69 tackles, 22.0 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. Houston led the league in sacks with 22 which has led him to be one of the highest payed defensive players. Houston is ranked #2 in ESPN’s rankings, but I have Houston as the best free agent out there.
Houston has been a monster in Kansas City, and he has been a major contributing factor to the Chiefs’ success the past few years. I am not sure of the front runners to sign Houston, but I do know that the Chiefs are going to do everything in their power they can to keep him on their roster.
Ndamukong Suh, defensive end for the Detroit Lions, had a decent season this past year. He had 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks and was a major reason the Lions defense was one of the top ranked this season. Suh was ranked as the #1 free agent according to ESPN, but i do not agree with their list because of how unprofessional Suh is. Suh is one of the dirtiest players in the league, and just doesn’t know when to control his emotions and frustration. If I were a team looking to sign Suh, i would almost overlook him just because of how he acts on and off the field. I would not want someone like him to represent my organization, and i would much rather have Justin Houston playing for my team.
Overall, I have Dez Bryant and Justin Houston as the best players available this free agent period, but It should be interesting to see where all these players will end up.
