Kendrick Perkins Set To Become Cavalier
The Cleveland Cavaliers are set to sign center Kendrick Perkins after he finalizes a buyout with the Utah Jazz. Perkins has committed to signing with the Cavs over other contending destinations like Chicago, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans, and San Antonio. Perkins was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder Thursday to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal that sent Reggie Jackson to Detroit and Enes Kanter, Steve Novak, Kyle Singler, and D.J. Augustine to Oklahoma City.
LeBron James was the main reason why Perkins decided on Cleveland because James recruited Perkins directly. Perkins wants to win and that is why he chose to join James in Cleveland. LeBron welcomed Perkins on twitter this afternoon and Perkins responded saying, ” I’m on my way!”.
This move gives the Cavs an extra tough, physical center who can fill in for Mozgov when he is on the bench. This will relieve some of the center duty off of Tristan Thompson, so he can play power forward. Perkins provides physical defensive play and aggressive offensive play from down low. This addition will help lock down the Cavaliers defense, which is what they lack in the most.
Perkins will more than likely not see significant minutes, but he will most definitely fill in down low when Mozgov and Thompson sit. This addition will add veteran playoff experience, as Perkins won it all back in 2008 with the Boston Celtics. The Cavaliers and LeBron James have done a nice job of bringing in some veteran guys to help coach up the younger players in how to handle themselves and how to keep focused for the postseason.
