Shabazz Napier out for remainder of the season
Miami Heat point guard Shabazz Napier is out for the remainder of the season because he had sports hernia surgery. Napier has been an intricate part of the Heat bench because he provided depth to the point guard position. Napier averaged 5.1 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.2 rebounds in 51 games with 10 starts for the Heat this season. Napier was behind Mario Chalmers and Goran Dragic for the starting job in Miami.
The Miami heat are in the middle of keeping their playoff hopes alive, and they are becoming injury riddled. They first lost Josh McRoberts for the remainder of the season, Chris Bosh was next in being out for the season because of his health issues, and now Napier is out for the regular season and possibly the first round of the playoffs.
The Heat have been able to do amazing things with the injuries they have had. Largely because of the Goran Dragic trade and the play of Hassan Whiteside. Dragic has lessened the load off of Wade because of his ability to facilitate the basketball. Dragic also has an uncanny ability to score when needed. Whiteside has provided the team with an inside presence that they lost when Bosh was lost for the season.
The Heat are sitting in 7th place in the Eastern Conference, and they are going to need to win at least half of their remaining games to just sneak into the playoffs. The defending Eastern Conference champions are going to end up making the playoffs, but it will be a much tougher road because of injuries and looming possibilities of playing Cleveland in the first round.
