The Pittsburgh Pirates are currently riding one of the biggest hot streaks of the season, as they have won 8 straight games behind the astounding starting rotation the Pirates have created.

Gerrit Cole pitched a marvelous game on Thursday night against the Chicago White Sox, as he went 7 innings only allowing two runs, striking out four, and only allowing three hits. Cole also earned another win to add to his already National League-leading win total of 11. Cole’s ERA went to 1.78 after Thursday’s game, which is still a National League best.

The Pirates offense struggled with the long ball Wednesday and Thursday, but they received timely hitting, as Josh Harrison, Jung-Ho Kang, and Gregory Polanco drove in the Pirates three runs with a single or a fielders choice on Thursday evening.

The Pirates have now gained two full games on the National League Central leading St. Louis Cardinals. The Bucs have now shrunk the Cardinals lead to only four games, and still maintain the third best record in baseball at 12 games over .500.

The Pirates pitching staff has been absolutely dominant the past month. In the past 7 days, the Pirates total team ERA has been .52. No, that is not a typo. Their ERA really is .52 over the past week. The Pirates pitching staff went 35 straight innings this past week without allowing a run. And catcher Francisco Cervelli caught 50 plus scoreless innings until the streak broke Wednesday night for both.
