Giancarlo Stanton out 4-6 weeks with broken hamate bone

The Miami Marlins have announced that slugger Giancarlo Stanton is going to be sidelined for four to six weeks due to a broken bone in his left wrist. Stanton was placed on the 15-day disabled list, which could potentially extend to the 30-day disabled list depending on Stanton’s progress.

Stanton broke the hamate bone in his left wrist during Friday night’s 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dan Jennings told reporters that Stanton will need to have surgery to repair that broken bone in his wrist.

Jennings said, “He is going to meet today with Dr. (Lee) Kaplan and a hand specialist to determine the best course of action. From what I’ve been told, it is better to have the surgical procedure, healing-wise. We’re hoping that it will be the quickest course possible, but certainly not great news when you lose a guy that means what he’s meant to this ball club and to baseball.”
